The Book Review column is a new column this year written by Chantal and Mackenzie for Alpha Photojournalism. This column is intended to suggest books that can be found in the Alpha Library to students of all ages who would like to read something new. The books in each issue are highly recommended and hand-picked by Chantal and Makenzie in hopes that more students will show interest in books and visit the library. Need something to read? Here are a few suggestions that you can find in the Alpha Library, located on the second floor.

Drowsily the ebony sky bids goodnight Crows rustle, preparing for a chilly flight Frosted streets glaze with a hazy yellow, Streetlamps sleepily cast their light so mellow The retiring Sun chuckles at the attempt But December leads to vitality spent The last of the stars send their final kisses Silvery wind whisper its bedtime wishes Thickly the cold sinks, heating Winter souls Yet knitwear is donned, as to not catch a cold Houses costume as Santa’s workshop up North Each window a glowing photograph of warmth Twinkling trees blush a faint golden yellow Crackling fireplaces and kitten-soft pillows Snowflakes pirouette through the frigid night Promising magic for tomorrow’s bright light By Chadd Hennig
Cody’s POV A hesitant look creeps onto her face after being told to share her alibi. I repeat my demand. “Louisa, it’s your turn. Todd did it so now you have to.” By Mira Yung
With Christmas just around the corner, Alpha Leadership students went to volunteer at the Greater Vancouver Food Bank: a non-profit organization dedicated to providing canned food and other social services to those in need. Leadership students were hard at work on Wednesday, December 6th: they spent the day sorting, packing, and moving over 20 boxes of non-perishable food items! They would like to thank their supervisor, Michelle, for teaching them about the purpose of the Food Bank and how we as a community can help others this holiday season; as well as their teacher, Ms. Douglas, for giving them this incredible opportunity. On November 23rd, Post-Secondary Institutions from all over British Columbia came to Alpha Secondary to share resources and information with students. Both Simon Fraser University and Capilano University had information sessions where students and parents could learn and ask questions about university admissions, programs and requirements.
