What words does the Halloween season bring to mind? Pumpkins (and inevitably, jack-o-lanterns), candy (despite not being time-efficient, trick-or-treating is a cost-efficient way to get your yearly supply of fun-sized candy), spooks (jumpscares and haunted houses? What better way to spend a Tuesday night then by watching a horror movie in the dark with all of your friends? And that’s exactly what happened on October 25th, less than a week away from Halloween. The Dance Team, with the help of Ms. Stewart and volunteers, put on Dance of the Dead, which comprised of a dance performance followed up with “Lights Out,” a thriller film. The concession stand, manned by a team of volunteers, offered a selection of popcorn, hot chocolate, candy, as well as instant noodles to hungry students, parents, and faculty. By Katie Kuchinskaya. On Saturday, October 15, Alpha Secondary School held the VEX Robotics Competition, starting the 2016 Robotics season, with 38 teams overall from around British Columbia. The event was sponsored by iDesign Solutions – a US corporation of professional engineers and geologists, who are investing into future specialists. According to the tournament’s commentator, “this was one of the largest starting events in BC,” which will lead the winning team and other awarded participants in separate categories to the regional championships. by Katie Kuchinskaya
Universities and colleges of BC are opening their doors to new applicants. Hundreds of programs are being offered throughout the province to suit the future career pursuits of all students. The application process has already started for the top universities – UBC and SFU, with Douglas College offering admission on a rolling basis. Throughout the whole semester, Alpha Secondary School will be hosting presentations from different institutions during lunch periods in the library. |
