Star Search is one of Alpha’s staple events for students, staff, and community members to witness the overwhelming talent at Alpha! Put on by the Offence, Alpha’s humanitarian club run by Mrs. Borders, this yearly talent show is always an entertaining night for the Alpha community. The event was hosted on February 16th. And this year’s ninth annual competition had a “Starry Night” theme. Members of the Offence ganged together to organize the event and decorate the small gym, transforming the gymnasium into a night sky.
Ten acts, as well as one of Alpha’s staff, Marquis Lung, performed in front of the crowd. Between the wonderful acts, the evening’s MCs, Lucas Fleming and Philman Yeung, charmed the audience. The top three acts of the night were the band Better Strangers, singer Jessy Zhang, and duo Paniz Najjarrezaparast and Mahon Yousefi. Better Strangers were the winners of the evening, consisting of a group of experienced Alpha performers: Jeff Martin, Graham Perry, Ben Boardman, Annika Brydson, and Koji Laprise. The top two performers of the night, Better Strangers, and Jessy Zhang will be representing Alpha in DSAC’s Burnaby’s Got Talent along with the other top performers from Burnaby schools.
The proceeds from Star Search were given to the Burnaby Progressive Housing Society and an executive from the group also came in and spoke at the event. Make sure to show your support for your Alpha performers by attending Burnaby’s Got Talent and watch out for next year’s show!
