By Gabrielle Alvarez
Oh! If we could be like sea and sky,
Collected in a chrysalis of only them.
To be ceaselessly linked by a horizon of airy adoration,
That nor mortal mind, nor mortal device could comprehend.
If only our astral companions could lend us some space
To live as specks of gold in the eternal place.
The world will regard but never grasp
The tenderness of her dear embrace.
As in our night-time delusions, we only pretend
To exist in gravity as if pulled and tied with thread.
And we two believe with a conscious heart
That our dreams are somehow meant to be met.
Except, our bodies remain and our souls intact
Not reaching for our unreasonable ends.
We still can dream and wish for thee
But our wishes will only ever be make-believe.
