Alpha’s Marketing 11 class presents Alpha Merchandise.
Every Wednesday at lunch, beginning November 1st, students will be selling t-shirts, hoodies, and crewneck sweaters in order to immerse themselves in the business world. The Alpha themed merchandise will be featuring student-made designs for a fair price. The class will also be bringing back last year’s design for those who didn’t have the chance to purchase one. The Marketing 11 class hopes that their business venture will boost Alpha’s school spirit as well.
This project will allow the grade 11 Marketing students to engage in authentic business operations. They will be working with local manufacturers to maintain a healthy inventory and will apply what they’ve learned in class to operating the business. Ms. van Duynhoven, the Marketing 11 teacher, has taught the students about the Marketing Mix, the Promotional Mix, and other essential business aspects that create a successful business. Running a school business will give these students valuable experience. Perhaps Alpha will see more student-run businesses in the future!
"The operation of a school-based business provides many Alpha marketing students their first taste of work experience. The Alpha Apparel business reinforces what students are learning in the classroom, and allows them to practice the real-life application of their skills. Some of the skills students develop from participating in this business include: communication and customer service, advertising, teamwork, cash handling, inventory management, and managing the books. These are all transferable job skills that will be helpful when students seek out their first job," says Ms. van Duynhoven.
December 20th will be the last day of sales so make sure to get yours while you can!
